Soda Springs Community, Comanche County, Texas

By James & Donna Chapman

Soda Springs Community; Comanche County, Texas, tells the story of a Central Texas farming community from a scattering of early settlers along Sweetwater and Copperas Creeks in the 1850s, to its heyday in the 1930-40s, to modern times as the 20th Century fades into memory. The people of the community toiled to earn a living from the soil, to educate their children, and to worship their God. They faced the sacrifices of two world wars, influenza, polio, and accidental death. They participated in the organizations, social activities, and politics of their time. It is a story repeated in hundreds of small communities in the state of Texas, and yet it is uniquely the story of those who lived in the Soda Springs area.
