James grew up in the community of Soda Springs, attending the two-teacher school at Soda Springs  and Taylor's Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. He graduated from Sidney High School and the University of North Texas. He was a teacher, principal, and superintendent at Sidney, Hobbs, Fluvanna, and Blanket Schools and a cattleman until retirement. He has been researching genealogy and local history for several years.

Donna  grew up in the community of Antioch in Hood County, Texas. She graduated from Tolar High School, Tarleton State University, and the University of North Texas.  She was a teacher, a librarian, and a technology coordinator serving in Sidney, Fluvanna, and Comanche Schools. In addition to working with James to publish his research, she is researching the community of Antioch.
The Chapmans have completed the application and written the history for two Texas Historical Markers in Comanche County. Donna has written the history for a historical marker for the Antioch Community in Hood County to be dedicated soon, and a Historic Cemetery application for Antioch Cemetery. She is working on a history of the Antioch Community similar to the Soda Springs History..

The Chapmans enjoy traveling, dancing, and jigsaw puzzles. It was an affinity for puzzles that led them to genealogy and local history, where there is always a new puzzle to solve.
